Knitting for Olive- Yarn Review

Not all yarn is created the same way and not all producers will have the same level of care for the sheep they receive their yarn from.  There is a great deal that goes into making the yarn we use, and I feel it’s important to research and know how the yarn is made.  I love supporting small yarn supplies and independent dyers when I can.

This year I discovered a fantastic new yarn for me, it’s Knitting for Olive.  They started with yarn patterns, and quickly realized they wanted to provide a better experience for those using their patterns and created their own yarn brand.   I love that their yarn brand was born out of their love of knitting.  Their patterns are beautiful and while they are out of this novice knitters league, I hope to one day do one of them.

So that brings up the question, how do you know if the yarn has been ethically sourced.  You will have to do your research for the yarns you love,  but knitting for Olive has received their certifications for Responsible Wool Standard and the Responsible Mohair Standard. The fact that they care so much about how the animals that produce their yarn are treated says alot about how they do business and their commitment to the yarn industry.  You can purchase online at their store ( https://knittingforolive.com/pages/yarn-overview)  They have two yarn shops in Denmark, if you are local or want to stop by.  However, in the US their yarn can be purchased at many local yarn shops. Our two favorites are Wool & Company or Knitessities Orlando.

I have done a couple of projects, their yarn is soft, and cozy and I love that it comes in skeins (no winding needed) and their colors pair so nicely together between their Merino and their Soft Silk Mohair (they ethically sources their silk too).

Their mohair makes for a lovely bit of added texture to projects, and their merino comes in both a fingering weight as well as a worsted, so you can do projects from simple hats to sweaters for both yarn weights.
